| Follow directions for Macbeth Icefield trail (seep page 31) and continue up the Glacier Creek Rd, taking the left or south fork road at 24 km. The trail is signposted a further 3 km along the south fork road. The wilderness here is immense, but try to picture yourself here when explorers traveled through this area almost a hundred years ago, or when the area was logged, the skid roads being pushed up this wilderness. The trail uses an old skid road for some of the ascent before entering the trees and rapidly getting steeper and rougher. The views are incredible at this watershed, take your time and enjoy the elevation before descending. There is also a trail that comes up from the East Kootenay side, from Jumbo Creek. To the east is the site of the proposed Jumbo Creek Alpine Ski Resort, with ski lifts to the summits of Glacier Dome, Karnak and Commander Glacier. | |
