Incredible alpine scenery with beautiful views and a high mountain to climb are the lures of this area. There is significant number sof bears in this area and every effort should be made to respect their right to this land. Please observe ALL bear etiquette especially if camping in this area. The access for both trails is from Retallack - a ghost town at the summit of highway 31A between Kaslo and New Denver. At the center of the abondoned town find the dirt road leading north from a large offroad pullout. Take the first right after 100m following signs for Lyle Ck. Follow forestry road signs for Whitewater or Brennan depending on your outing choice.

The Mt. Brennan road continues traversing across the slope, passing the left turn for the Whitewater trail, across a creek and then 2km from highway at a sharp left hairpin take the smaller road right. Follow this rough road and park in the large basin about 500 m further along. The trail follows the old mining road until picking up a trail that continues to the top of the bench. Two beautiful lakes fill the bench, with peaks and steep slopes completing the postcard. Take a break here and if you feel like it continue up on the left hand side of the basin gaining rock benches that eventually flatten out and you are on the summit. Enjoy the view!
