  • Distance: 4 km to 14 km

  • Map: 82K/2 Lardeau
A major attraction at the north end of Kootenay Lake. The tight valley, remote and wild feeling of the canyon gives clues to the backcountry of the Purcell Wilderness Conservancy that lie in the mountains above. Follow Highway 31 north from Kaslo past several small communities looking for a BC Parks sign just before the Lardeau service station. Follow the blue signs right onto the Duncan Lake Rd and then over the Duncan River Bridge and right on the Argenta Rd. Travel slowly and carefully on this narrow road serving the communities of Argenta and Johnsons Landing. The trail starts at km 15 just before a tight left hairpin turn. There is a noticeboard and map at the trailhead. The trail is well marked including side trails down to the lake and the major attraction of the Canyon. A longer trail follows the creekbed up the canyon for several kilometers.
