Situated right on the Kootenay Lake, the Pilot Bay Provincial Park and Lighthouse are the central attractions of this area. The Kootenay Lake ferry land around the corner at Kootenay Bay and the road to Pilot Bay starts there. Drive for 4km and take a signposted left and park your car. A short walk to the old Pilot Bay lighthouse gives great views of the lake and inspiration for the longer trails to the beaches and woods of Pilot Point. In the other direction the trail follows the beach in Pilot By to the Provincial Campsite after 3km. It is very beautiful to continue walking along the beach south to Pebble Beach and Tipi Camp. This area has some old established trail, old logging road however many new trails are being added and so there may be some confusion for a few years.
