PRIVATE LAND

This hike shows Nelson in all of its splendor. Located on Elephant Mountain (Mt. Nelson) the view encompasses the wildflowers that are often found, the West Arm of Kootenay Lake, Nelson and the endless forested mountains spreading south. On the north side of the Orange Bridge take Johnstone Road 2 km to a dirt pullout on the left. Walk along the road fifty meters and hike up a very steep and rough 4WD road for a hundred meters. The trail heads straight up from the road and eases after the powerlines. Enjoy the views or continue rambling up the mountain.

THIS TRAIL CURRENTLY CROSSES PRIVATE LAND AND IS NOT TO BE USED.

Apparantly an older trail that does not cross private land starts from somewhere near the end of Johnstone Rd. Please let me know if anyone knows any further details.
